1. University offices closed Dec. 23 through Jan. 2

As a result of the gift of time previously announced by Senior Vice President Greg Kliebhan and Provost John Pauly in consultation with President Robert A. Wild, S.J., university offices will be closed Thursday, Dec. 23, through Sunday, Jan. 2. Eligible employees (full-time and regular part-time employees scheduled to work on those days) will receive an additional three paid holidays.

Limited campus services, including the Departments of Public Safety and Facility Services and the Rec Plex, will remain open (see No. 7, below, for additional services).

Employees in departments where 24/7 or holiday coverage is necessary will work with their supervisors on alternative schedules.

2. December payroll to be issued Wednesday

With the gift of time giving employees the entire week between Christmas and New Year’s as paid vacation, December monthly payroll will be distributed Wednesday, Dec. 22, replacing the scheduled Dec. 31 pay date. Pay will be for the entire pay period.

For those receiving biweekly pay, the payroll will be paid as scheduled Wednesday, Dec. 22, and Wednesday, Jan. 5. For those receiving biweekly pay, the payroll amount will be for the applicable hourly or autogen pay period.

3. Way Klingler Faculty Development applications are due next month

Applications for the Way Klingler Faculty Development Awards are due in January. The program provides awards to advance research and scholarship:
 
Way Klingler Young Scholar Award — Up to two awards will be given for 2011-12 to full-time regular junior faculty in the three years following their third-year review. The awards of up to $32,000 are intended to fund $2,000 in operating costs and to cover up to 50 percent of annual salary to afford the recipient a one-semester sabbatical. Application deadline is Jan. 12, 2011.

Way Klingler Fellowship Award — One award, the Way Klingler Humanities Fellow, will be made in 2011 and the competition for 2012 will be for the Way Klingler Science Fellowship. The humanities fellow will receive $20,000 annually for three years. The application deadline is Jan. 19, 2011.

4. A Year with Frog and Toad to be performed at Marquette

This year’s annual Theatre for Young Audiences play is the Tony-nominated musical, A Year with Frog and Toad, which follows two friends, the cheerful and popular Frog and the grumpy Toad, through four seasons. Waking from hibernation in the spring, they proceed to plant gardens, swim, rake leaves and go sledding, learning life lessons along the way, including about friendship and rejoicing in the attributes that make each of us different and special.

The performance, at the Evan P. and Marion Helfaer Theatre, will run:
• Saturday, Jan. 15, at 2:30 p.m.
• Saturday, Jan. 22, and Sunday, Jan. 23, at 2:30 p.m.

5. Haggerty art exhibitions close Jan. 2

Current exhibitions at the Haggerty Museum of Art will close Sunday, Jan. 2.

Let There Be Light features stained glass and drawings from the Collection of Oakbrook Esser Studies. Paintings by Janet McKenzie comprise the Holiness and the Feminine Spirit exhibition. The other exhibitions are The Black Panthers: Making Sense of History and Treasures from the Haggerty.

The museum is open daily except Dec. 24 and 25 and Jan. 1.

6. Breadwinner Scholarship benefited from 141 supporters this year

The 141 contributors to the 2010 Breadwinner Scholarship are recognized on the 2010 Breadwinner Holiday Card. The group raised more than $7,300 for the scholarship, which benefits Marquette students who have lost their breadwinner parent during their undergraduate years and are in need of financial assistance to continue their studies. Since the scholarship was first awarded in 1980, more than 250 students have received the award.

8. Have outgoing mail ready by Wednesday
