Sr. Augusta

75th ANNIVERSARY

Sister Augusta, B.S., M.A., a member of the Order of St. Francis, was the second dean of the college and served from 1943–48. During World War II, she established an accelerated program for cadet nurses. Federal support gave many students access to a Marquette nursing education in exchange for military service.

During Sister Augusta’s deanship, a post-graduate major in administration and teaching was established and the master’s program received initial accreditation. After completing her deanship, Sister Augusta served as administrator of St. Mary’s Hospital in Racine Wis., and president of the Wisconsin Council of Catholic Hospitals.
