Academic Advising
Academic advising is one of the most valued and available resources to undergraduate students who wish to make the most of their experience in Marquette’s College of Nursing. Academic advisers seek to provide students with support, encouragement and academic advice needed, as well as challenge the student to reach their full potential through goal setting and continual evaluation. Academic advisers collaborate with the student to design a meaningful program plan that is in line with their personal strengths and allows them to achieve success.

Each freshman student will be assigned to the Academic Advising Coordinator prior to their initial registration. The Academic Advising Coordinator will serve as their adviser for their freshman year. Students will then be transferred to a faculty adviser for the rest of their duration in the Nursing program. Students are required to meet with their adviser each semester during advising week to talk about their program plan but also to address additional resources or issues. Students are also encouraged to meet with their adviser when needed throughout the semester. For more information, contact Academic Advising Coordinator Katie Koncki.

Diversity Recruitment/Retention
To increase the number of registered nurses from underrepresented backgrounds so that competent care can be delivered to an increasinlg diverse population, MUCN has launched a dynamic diversity recruitment/retention initiative headed by Gloria Rhone, MSN, RN.

This initiative encompasses the entire curricula and includes a designated diversity recruiter/adviser. The diversity recruiter/adviser works closely with the university’s admission advisers, the Educational Opportunity Program (EOP), financial aid, counselors, college of nursing faculty and staff, enrolled students and prospective students to promote access to and success in nursing education programs offered at Marquette University. Comprehensive and on-going recruitment efforts are made through working relationships with selected middle schools, high schools and community organizations. On-campus advising/mentoring is available throughout the school year.

Diversity Recruitment/Retention Initiative
Marquette participates in middle school and high school recruitment, works with high school career counselors and serves as on-campus mentor/adviser for enrolled students
