HEALTH REQUIREMENT CHECKLIST
Graduate Student Handbook
Marquette University's College of Nursing developed a master's program of study for nurses who have an associate degree in nursing and also have a bachelor's degree in disciplines other than nursing. This is a program to which each student is admitted as a special case.
Admission requirements include the following:
- Baccalaureate degree
- Undergraduate GPA of 3.0 or greater using a 4.0 system
- Associate degree in nursing with GPA of 3.0 or above, using a 4.0 system
- GRE scores (waived with a 3.2 GPA or higher)
- Three recommendation forms (included in the online application)
- Résumé and written statement of professional goals, including reasons for pursuing graduate study
- Completion of Marquette Graduate School application, indicating you have an A.D.N. and a B.S./B.A. degree
- Official transcripts
- Completion of the following prerequisite courses with a grade of C or better:
o Anatomy and physiology* 5-6 credits
o Chemistry or biochemistry or biology or microbiology* 5-6 credits
o Behavioral sciences (e.g., psychology, sociology) 3 credits
o Statistics (including inferential analysis)** 3 credits
* Prerequisites preferred within last five years
** Statistics must be taken within five years of your start date.
- Must be registered as a professional nurse in the U.S. and licensed in Wisconsin
After admission you will be required to complete the following undergraduate courses before enrolling in any specialty graduate option course:
- NURS 6010 – Research and Evidence as a Foundation for Nursing (3 cr.)
- HEAL 6825 – HEAL Quality and Patient Safety
(3 cr.)
- NURS 4500 – Nursing of Communities – Theory (3 cr.)
- NURS 4501 – Nursing of Communities – Clinical (3 cr.)
These undergraduate courses do not count as graduate electives.
