Ignatius Scholarships for International Students

The Ignatius Scholarships are divided into two categories: Academic Achievement and Service and Leadership.  There is not a separate financial aid application form for the Ignatius Scholarships. Students will be considered for these awards if they successfully complete their application. However, a student who is interested in financial aid should strive to provide any additional information which may further demonstrate the student’s academic ability or service and leadership such as school recommendation letters, information about the student’s academic rank or position in the student’s class, record of community service, or a list of leadership activities.

Academic Achievement

The Ignatius Scholarships for academic achievement range from $10,000 to $14,000 per year for up to four years (2010-2011 amounts). They are based on merit, not on financial need.

Thus, the total financial aid from Ignatius academic achievement awards can range up to $14,000 per academic year for up to four years.  No scholarships are available based on financial need.

Service and Leadership

The Ignatius Scholarships for service and leadership are $8,000 per year for up to four years (2010-2011 amounts). They are based on merit, not on financial aid.

Students who do not receive the Ignatius Scholarship for academic achievement are eligible for the Ignatius Scholarship for service and leadership (students cannot receive both of these awards). To receive the Ignatius Scholarship for service and leadership, a student must have a record of leadership or community service that is strong enough to meet the award requirements.  A student who is interested in this award should provide additional records to indicate the kinds of activities and the positions held during the past several years, the number of weeks or months of the student’s leadership or service, and the approximate numbers of hours that the student has contributed to each activity. A student should also provide letters from the school administrators or community leaders of their activities to verify the information about the leadership or community service.
