The International Teaching Assistant Program (ITAP) is a one-week intensive preparation program for new international TAs held two weeks prior to the start of the fall semester.  The International TA Program helps prepare new international teaching assistants to their role as TAs at Marquette.

This program provides workshops designed to introduce and review the skills the international TAs need to successfully interact with American undergraduate students.  The topics covered include American university culture, teacher/student roles, presentation skills, classroom management, and culture shock.  The program also features a luncheon with department representatives, undergraduate and experienced international TA student panels, and a cultural trip.

During the Program, international TAs take the ITA Placement Test (IPT), which evaluates their English and presentation skills to determine if they need to enroll in ESLP 6021, American Language and Communication Skills for Teaching Assistants.  Department representatives are encouraged to attend the Micro-Teaching part of the IPT to help inform the assessment of the presentations.
