For the 18th straight year, Marquette University students, faculty, staff and alumni will join together to participate in Hunger Clean-Up, one of the nation’s largest one-day service projects. Approximately 2,000 members of the Marquette community will gather at 9 a.m. Saturday, April 21, at Westowne Square, adjacent to the Alumni Memorial Union (1442 W. Wisconsin Ave.) for team check-in.
**Photo Note: All volunteers will gather at Marquette at 9 a.m. They will then participate in service projects at approximately 60 sites throughout the Milwaukee area. For specific times and locations, please contact Christopher Stolarski in the Office of Marketing and Communication at 414-288-1988.
The annual event is coordinated entirely by students through Marquette University's Center for Community Service. In addition to volunteering on the day of the event, students raise approximately $20,000 through pledges to support the work of community agencies in greater Milwaukee. This year’s grants will be awarded to the Grand Avenue Club, St. Ben’s Community Meal, St. Catherine’s Residence and Walker’s Point Center for the Arts.
Nearly 90 percent of Marquette undergraduate students participate in some form of service during their college experience. Marquette University’s long and proud history of community engagement is rooted in the university's Jesuit mission to develop leaders through service to others.
Graduate School of Management pitches in
In addition to Hunger Clean-Up, Marquette University’s Graduate School of Management (GSM) will be participating in the first Jesuit MBA Cares national day of service. Marquette’s GSM is joining Jesuit schools across the nation on April 21 to give back to their communities. Students and faculty from the GSM will collect professional clothing for The Bottomless Closet and Milwaukee Rescue Mission, two organizations to prepare women and men to enter jobs and their communities.
Clothing donations will be collected on April 21 from 9:30 a.m.- noon at David Straz Hall, behind Katharine Cudahy Hall at 13th and Wisconsin. Cash donations are also accepted.
