IACUC Committee Membership:

Composition

• Veterinarian
• Public member not affiliated with Marquette University
• Non-scientist scholar
• More than one tenured, animal-using scientist from Marquette University---attempt should be make to balance the representation of various animal-using units but, with no more than three members from any one administrative unit.
• Non-voting members: Research Compliance Officer for IACUC & IBC/Director - Animal Resource Center, Animal Care and Facility Supervisor, and the Animal & Biosafety Research Analyst.

Alternate Members

• Alternates to members of categories listed above may be appointed to receive training as eventual replacements and to substitute for the absent regular member of the same category.
• Alternate members are non-voting unless substituting for the absent regular member of the same category.

Appointments

• The Vice Provost for Research/Institutional Official (IO) nominates individuals and the University President appoints with a letter.
• Appointments are made for three years. Members may be re-appointed for additional terms.
• Alternate members will be nominated and appointed in the same manner.

Officers

IACUC Chair

• The IACUC Chair will be appointed by the IO for a 3-year term.
• The IO may re-appoint the Chair for additional 3-year terms.

IACUC Vice Chair

• The Vice Chair will be elected by the IACUC members for a 3-year term and may be re-elected for additional terms.
• The Vice Chair will substitute for the Chair in the latter's absence.

Mission Statement

The mission of the Office of Research Compliance, in cooperation with and in support of the Institutional Review Board, Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee, Radiation Safety Committee, and Institutional Biosafety Committee, is to facilitate safe and ethical research conducted by Marquette faculty, staff and students in the areas of human subjects, animal subjects, radiation safety and biosafety.
