Membership in Phi Beta Kappa is for life. The Zeta of Wisconsin Chapter invites all Resident Members — faculty, administrators, and students at Marquette University — to participate in its activities throughout the academic year. The highlight of each year is the election and initiation of new members, those junior and senior undergraduate students who have demonstrated their academic excellence in liberal studies, their good character, and their commitment to the ideals of the Society. Chapter activities focus identification and election of new members and the promotion of the ideals of Phi Beta Kappa. The Chapter also elects qualifying graduate students, Honorary Members, and Alumni/ae Members.
In recognition of her service to the Zeta of Wisconsin Chapter, the Chapter established the Professor Claudia M. Schmidt Memorial Financial Assistance Fund. The purpose of the Fund is to provide financial assistance toward initiation fees for those newly elected members who have demonstrated financial need. Professor Schmidt served as Vice President and Secretary of the Chapter and was passionate about Phi Beta Kappa. Pledges or contributions may be directed to the President or Treasurer of the Chapter. Those elected to membership will be advised of their eligibility for receipt of financial assistance from the Fund.
