QuickTime Installation Instructions

These instructions are specific to Windows PC users installing QuickTime. Most Mac systems have QuickTime already installed.

1) Note: Webcasts or media files might be restricted to campus.

2) Go to http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/

3) If you are using Internet Explorer, an Active X warning may pop-up. Click Yes or OK to allow. If you are using Internet Explorer 5 or earlier, you may not be able to view the webcast. Use Netscape instead or upgrade your Internet Explorer at http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/downloads/default.asp

4) You will be prompted to install QuickTime, an audio-video program. Click the button that prompts you to get the plug-in.

5) Depending on your browser, the plug-in will automatically download and begin the installation process or it will display a "Download the free player" page with your operating system (Windows) preselected. If you see the "Download the free player" page with the "Download QuickTime" button, click the download button.

6) You may be prompted to save the file. If you can, run the installer from the location. Otherwise, save it to your desktop.

7) If the installer does not automatically launch a blue-background installer, quit your web browser. Go to your Windows desktop and locate the QuickTimeInstaller icon. Double click it.

8) The first screen will be a Welcome screen. Click Next button.

9) Another welcome screen. Click Next button.

10) License agreement screen. Click Agree button.

11) Choose destination directory screen. Click Next button.

12) Choose installation type screen. Click Next button.

13) Select Program Folder screen. Click Next button.

14) QuickTime Plugin Options screen. Click Next button.

15) Registration screen. Leave all text fields blank. Click Next button.

16) Download screen. Click Continue button.

17) Download occurs and a setup progress window appears.

18) QuickTime Settings window pops up. Click Next button.

19) QuickTime Connection Speed window appears. For on-campus computers, choose Intranet/LAN. Click Next button.

20) File Type Associations screen. Click Next button.

21) Finish screen appears. Uncheck both boxes for "Yes, I want to view the QuickTime README file" and "Yes, I want to launch QuickTime Player." Click Close button.

22) If you quit your web browser in an earlier step, launch it and go to http://www.apple.com/quicktime/

23) If your web browser is still running, go to http://www.apple.com/quicktime/ click the Reload or Refresh button. If you are using Internet Explorer, an Active X warning may pop-up. Click Yes or OK to allow.

24) Test your web browser by choosing one of the audio-video files on this page (e.g. movie trailers). If you experience problems, contact the ITS Help Desk at 414-288-7799.
