Applying to the Clinical Psychology Program

Application to the doctoral clinical psychology program is done through the Marquette's Graduate School, which can be reached by phone at (414) 288-7137.


Applications must be submitted online:  apply online.

 

  • PLEASE NOTE: Applicants must clearly specify on the application that they are applying to the Clinical Psychology Program of the Department of Psychology in the college of Arts and Sciences using the letters "CLPS". (The Department of Counseling Psychology in the school of education offers doctoral and masters degrees in Counseling Psychology. Their web site is http://www.mu.edu/education/coep/.)

Applicants are strongly encouraged to contact the program directly, to inform us that you are applying. Send an e-mail to our Administrative Assistant, Trish Johnson.

Also, we would be more than happy to discuss the program, research opportunites, financial aid, application requirements, or anything else with you either in person, over the phone or via e-mail. Feel free to contact the Department Chairperson, Kristy Nielson, Ph.D. or the Director of Clinical Training, Stephen Saunders, Ph.D. or any of the other faculty.

What are the admission requirements?

In addition to the completed application form, to qualify for admission to the Clinical Program, you must fulfill these specific requirements (international students may need to meet additional requirements):

  • Official transcripts from all colleges you attended.
  • Three letters of recommendation.
  • Statement of purpose (300 words stating academic and professional goals).
  • Graduate Record Examination (GRE), General Test.
  • Graduate Record Examination (GRE), Subject Test

The GRE is administered by the Educational Testing Service (ETS), which is located in Princeton, NJ, and can be reached at 609-771-7670.

When should I apply?

The application deadline for the Clinical Psychology Program is January 15. Late applications will generally not be considered.

What about financial aid?

  • Most doctoral applicants apply for financial aid. Applying for financial aid does not affect your application or the chances of admittance to the program either negatively or positively.
  • Most applicants accepted to the doctoral program receive financial aid.
  • Financial aid is not available to master's level students.
  • You will be asked to indicate on the application whether you are seeking financial aid or not. More information about the various types of aid can be found on the Financial Aid page.

When might I hear if I have been admitted?

Generally, the Graduate School will notify you of an admission decision within four or five weeks following the application deadline.
