Public Safety Bulletin – July 26, 2013

During the past week, a student reported that an unknown substance may have been placed in her drink at Sobelman’s, located at 1601 W. Wells St. The Department of Public Safety has now learned of a second alleged incident of drink tampering at the same location, which occurred more than a year ago and was reported last night. The individual involved in the incident from a year ago reported that following the incident, she was the victim of an alleged sexual assault that occurred at a different location. When the Department of Public Safety learned of these alleged incidents, they were reported to the Milwaukee Police Department, which is currently investigating.

Please review the following information for your safety.

The safety, security and well-being of our campus community – especially our students – is our highest priority. You can reduce your likelihood of sexual assault and contribute to stopping this crime by watching out for each other. It is important to understand that sexual assault is never the fault of the victim. Marquette offers a Sexual Misconduct Website with information about on-campus and off-campus resources on awareness and prevention training. More than 4,500 students have participated in mandatory sexual misconduct awareness training and education programs, which is mandatory for all incoming first-year students. Additional bystander intervention training will once again be available for the entire campus community this fall.
