Introduction
Laser is an acronym for Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation. Laser light is a form of electromagnetic radiation, but this radiation is usually not ionizing radiation. Because lasers are used in a great variety of applications throughout campus and laser light may cause injury if improperly used, Marquette has developed laser safety resources to govern the use of lasers on campus.

The Risk Unit is responsible for evaluating loss exposures, assessing liability, handling claims, promoting internal controls and developing effective safety and health programs. The corporate and student insurance plans are managed by this unit.
