Major VanFleet graduated from Western Illinois University in 1997 with a Bachelor of Science in Business.  He graduated from Colorado Technical University with a Master of Business Administration degree. 

MAJ VanFleet enlisted in the Army National Guard in 1993 and attended Basic Combat Training at Fort Leonard Wood, MO.  He attended Advanced Individual Training at Fort Lee, Virginia where he became an Army Logistician and was assigned to A Battery of the 1/202 Air Defense Artillery Brigade under the 34th Infantry Division.   He earned a commission through OCS and was branched in the Transportation Field in August 1998.

MAJ VanFleet served as the Executive Officer and a Platoon Leader with the 1244th Transportation Company out of North Riverside, Illinois from 1998-2003.  He transferred to the Army Reserves and was the rear detachment commander of the 1150th Transportation Company at Ft. Sheridan, Illinois in 2003.  MAJ VanFleet deployed to Balad, Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2004 with the 369th Transportation Company out of Wichita, Kansas.  Major VanFleet served as a Logistics Staff Officer for the 89th Regional Readiness Command in Wichita, Kansas from 2005-2008.  He assumed command of the 425th Transportation Company in Salina, Kansas from 2008-2011.  He deployed to Kandahar, Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom from February 2010 – February 2011.

His military education includes the Combined Logistics Captain Career Course and the Transportation Officer Basic Course.

MAJ VanFleet's awards and decorations include: the Bronze Star Medal (1 Oak Leaf Cluster),the Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal (1 Oak Leaf Cluster), Army Reserve Components Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal with bronze star, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Iraqi Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal with 10-year and "M" device, Army Service Ribbon, Army Overseas Service Ribbon, NATO ISAF Ribbon, the Combat Action Badge, and the Meritorious Unit Commendation Award.

Major VanFleet is married to Michelle and has three children:  Ashley, Bryce and Cloe.
