In Marquette’s commitment to the furthering of knowledge and fulfilling the mission, that seeks a campus climate that welcomes, celebrates, and promotes respect for the entire variety of human experience. The Diversity Committee members are agents of that movement through providing support, mentorship, and advocacy to students, and an exploration platform for faculty, staff, and administrators of the Marquette Community.
We are a body of people who are passionate about creating an inclusive and welcoming campus community in which everyone’s unique backgrounds, identities, cultures and perspectives are respected, embraced and celebrated. We are currently made up of administrators dedicated to provision of student services that not only enhance students’ academic performance, but also nurture the whole person.
We provide support, mentorship, and advocacy to students.
We provide opportunities for education and discussion around issues of diversity that not only help us to serve students, but also help us as employees to continue to grow and learn about those very issues and ourselves (thus serving the greater values of the university – Service, Leadership, Excellence, Faith).
We do this for the betterment of the Marquette community, students, faculty, and staff.
Ultimately, we do it to help the students to succeed. However, we help the students by helping ourselves, and visa versa. You cannot impact only one part of the system without impacting the entire system.
Marquette’s commitment to diversity helps foster a culture of learning, appreciation, and understanding. It is in line with our mission.
We do it to contribute to a campus climate in which all people feel valued and supported for who they are, because that is an environment that is conducive to learning. We do it because we as an institution claim to value each person in our community—we are living out that mission and living up to our promise to students, faculty and administrators.
