FACULTY MEMBER

The Service Learning Program works to support faculty in the use of this important pedagogy and to encourage greater community engagement on campus. Throughout the year, the program offers a variety of professional development opportunities for faculty, including individual meetings, interdisciplinary project planning, a faculty reflection series, new faculty group conversations, community-faculty roundtable discussions, faculty field trips into the community, workshop opportunities, research symposiums, and guest speakers.

Faculty Conversations Series

Each year the Program hosts five to six informal discussions with faculty about various service learning related themes, including community based research, reflection, social justice, interdisciplinary projects, and assessment. Here you will find descriptions and a calendar of this year's Conversation series.

Upcoming Faculty Field Trips

Each spring the Program sponsors a bus tour of the community. Faculty are able to visit several of our agency partners and learn more about the needs of the community. Visit this page for a description of both upcoming and past field trips.

Marquette Service Learning Faculty Publications

Several Marquette faculty have been successful in publishing articles on service learning. Here you will find some of their articles.

Problem Solver Seed Grant

In order to promote the use of service learning and undergraduate community-based research as high impact pedagogy, the Center for Teaching and Learning will support community partner and faculty collaboration(s) through the funding of three $500 mini seed grants. Grants will be awarded to faculty and community partner teams working to address educational inequality in Milwaukee. Projects should equally benefit both the University and the community agency or school.
