Procedure for Selecting a Service Learning Placement:
Service Learning is an integral part of your experience as a member of the Dorothy Day Social Justice Living Learning Community. All of the sites for the Dorothy Day Social Justice Living Learning Community were carefully chosen to coincide with your course content for both fall and spring semesters. These agencies rely heavily on the full participation of its Service Learners. In addition to giving students invaluable lessons related to their coursework and relationship to the community, Service Learning offers the opportunity for personal growth and first-hand experience and skills that will last far after the year is complete. In order to best match you with a Service Learning placement for the year, we ask that you follow the following procedure:
- Review the placements selected for the program. You will be e-mailed a copy of these options, but they are also available here and on the Dorothy Day home page.
- Consider your top choices for sites, keeping in mind:
- Your interest in the site, your tasks, and its population base
- Whether or not your schedule agrees with the site’s hours
- If you can make the orientation date
- The site’s location and your mode of transportation - Rank your top 4 preferred sites.
- E-mail selections beginning Monday April 29th to Ali Hause using the form attached to the procedure e-mail. You can also find the form here.
- Wait for response from Anna on your assigned placement. You will be notified of your placement by Friday, May 3rd. If you have any concerns with your placement you must stop by the Service Learning Office before summer break.
