Transportation: By Car: Head west on I-94 W to exit 308C. Merge onto U.S. 41 N and continue for 2 miles. Turn left onto Lisbon Ave, then right onto N. 54th Street. The church will be on the right.

By Bus: From Wisconsin Ave, take the #30 bus west towards Florist. Exit at Sherman Blvd & Locust Street. Walk 12 blocks west. Bethel-Bethany church is located on the corner of Locust Street & 54th Street.

Description of Agency/Activities: Bethel-Bethany United Church of Christ is a progressive Protestant Congregation located in the Sherman Park neighborhood of Milwaukee, a multicultural/multiracial community. The church celebrates diversity and welcomes people of all ages, races, and faith backgrounds. As part of the United Church of Christ, a Christian denomination, Bethel-Bethany encourages members to develop their own beliefs, guided by Scripture and Spirit. With peace central to the church’s identity, the congregation strives to encourage a policy of non-discrimination in employment, volunteer service and membership policies with regard to sexual orientation. Bethel-Bethany believes that God is still speaking to us today, and proclaim this belief through our “Still Speaking Ministry.”

Student Role in Agency: Bethel-Bethany offers an after school urban 4-H Program for neighborhood children ages 5 through 19 from 4:00 - 6:00 on Thursday afternoons. Student Volunteers would have the opportunity to help children with projects, mentor youth, chaperone occasional field trips and service projects, and assist the ministerial staff expand the program to reach more children. Orientation provided by the staff with assistance from UW Extension coordinators of Milwaukee County 4-H.

Unique Features of the Agency: This is a great opportunity for Marquette students interested in urban ministry, education, counseling, and or social work.

Commitment: Mandatory orientation at the site for 1 hour and 2 hours per week for the duration of the semester.
