Description of Agency:
The Eviction Defense Project (the "EDP" or the "Project") is a program of Legal Action of Wisconsin, which is a non-profit law firm operating since 1968 to provide justice to low-income individuals. The EDP was formally launched on January 5, 2017, and seeks to reduce housing instability for low income Milwaukee County families, especially those with children, by providing tenants with greater access to civil legal aid through onsite, limited scope, representation at the Milwaukee County Courthouse.

Student Role in Agency:
Volunteer students will have the opportunity to gain valuable experience working in the county courthouse with attorneys, clients, and courthouse staff. Students will sign clients into the Project and escort them to intake and volunteer attorneys, and assist them in navigating the courthouse. Students will also be asked to assist with administrative responsibilities including intake, file maintenance, and data entry.

 Students are required to keep any case and client information that they obtain confidential.
