Description of Agency/Activities: Pathfinders Drop-In Center is Milwaukee's first Drop-In Center for runaway and homeless youth. Opened in 2010, the Center offers food, hygiene and laundry facilities, health and risk reduction resources, computer access, job supports, educational and community programming, and case management for youth aged 15-25. Since 1970, Pathfinders has provided licensed, caring therapists, expert counselors, and dedicated adults who have worked with young people in a nurturing, compassionate environment to ensure better tomorrows.

Student Role in Agency: The primary role of Service Learners at Pathfinders Drop-In Center is to be available to provide tutoring to clients requesting assistance with middle and high school homework, GED prep, and some community college and university level assignments. Additionally, youth may request assistance filling out official documents such as job and college applications, writing resumes, cover letters, or researching possible post-secondary educational opportunities. Other frequent opportunities to be involved with youth and staff in the day-to-day needs and operations of the Drop-In Center may arise.

Requirements: Service Learners must be of sophomore standing or greater.

Service Learners will need to complete a Pathfinders Volunteer Application Form, Confidentiality Statement, Boundary Guidelines, 3 Personal Reference Forms, and Background Information Disclosure forms. An on-site Training and Best Practices session will be offered and required (orientation).

Commitment: Students are asked to commit to a 2-4 hour time slot and be willing to commit weekly for the entire semester. The opportunity to continue volunteering after Service Learning term concludes may be available.
