Days/Hours of Operation: The central office is open from 9am-4:30pm. Service times for students will depend upon which program they become involved with; see below.
Description of Agency/Activities: Meta House offers residential and intensive outpatient treatment to woman for substance abuse and mental health needs. They are dedicated to providing an environment through which women and children transform their lives. Meta House provides services that are emotionally and physically safe, comprehensive, financially accessible, culturally competent and clinically effective. Service are designed to meet the unique needs of each woman and child and to strengthen family relationships. Mothers and children under the age of 10 are welcome into the residential programs. Meta House also provides transitional housing to women who need it. Meta House offers group, individual, and family counseling and all treatment is gender-responsive. They also have a full range of training and educational programs that address: basic living skills, educational/job skills, HIV/AIDS education, anger management, child developmental and parenting skills, and relapse prevention.
Student Role in Agency: SOWJ 3400: Service Learners at this site would work in tandem with the Marquette University Trinity Fellow graduate student on the following advocacy projects:
- Rebecca Project for Human Rights and our Sacred Authority and our Sacred Authority Chapter - This is a national leadership network of advocates that use their personal experiences and stories of recovery to personify the real lives of families with substance abuse and subsequently influence decision-makers.
- Meta House recently did research on tactics for lobbying and building legislative initiatives. Students are needed to create a time line and annual action plan.
Student assistance is needed on the Advocacy page of the Meta House Web site. - The Women's Fund Grant provides funding for the Meta House advocacy initiatives. There is currently a need for a student to track past data and develop strategies for upcoming initiatives.
