Mexican Fiesta - The Wisconsin Hispanic Scholarship Foundation

Description of Agency/Activities:
This agency is the planning and organizing group for Mexican Fiesta, a festival held at the end of every August on the Summerfest grounds. The agency also governs the granting of college scholarship to deserving Latino university students. Since 1987, the foundation has awarded over $650,000 in academic scholarship. The agency promotes and organizes a variety of other activities to honor Mexican culture and traditions. Some of the other activities include the Annual Taco Dinner held in April.

Student Role: The agency needs three Spanish-speaking service learners for a wide variety of office and business-related tasks. Service Learners in this placement will answer phone calls, compose e-mails, provide direct customer service, and write letters in Spanish. They will translate from Spanish to English and vice versa, as well as help to compose and translate flyers and brochures. In addition, students will work on various on going projects. All of the staff speaks Spanish in the office and welcomes those who seek to improve their skill level in Spanish conversation in a business environment.

Commitment: Students are asked to commit to 3-4 hours per week.
