Description of Agency/Activities: South Division High School's Adult ESL Program is affiliated with an Adult Education Program based in Mexico. The classes provide basic education for the school parents and other adults in the area. This program is offered in the evenings so that parents who work can come and learn English. The curriculum is computer-based and focuses on reading and writing in English. After the course, the students receive an English as a Second Language (ESL) certificate, which has been approved by the program's affiliates in Mexico.

Student Role in Agency: Students will serve as one on one or group tutors for the students. Since the computer-based curriculum does not have audio capability, the student's role is to practice pronunciation and basic conversation with the students. The student may also need to explain English grammar lessons and answer questions in Spanish if the student needs clarification. There is also an opportunity for service learners to engage in informal conversations with participants.

**SPANISH PROFICIENCY IS REQUIRED FOR THIS SITE. Students must be able to effectively communicate with Native Spanish Speakers when they need explanation of English grammar.

Commitment: One 2-hour shift per week for one semester.
