Description of Agency/Activities:The Gerald L. Ignace Indian Health Center, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) Non-Profit organization. The health clinic houses a medical clinic, behavioral health clinic, social and enabling services, fitness center, diabetes wellness department, and the Ignace Youth Center. While the clinic’s main focus is on improving the health, peace and wellness of Milwaukee Urban Indians, our many services and programs offered at the health clinic are also available to the general public.

The Ignace Youth Center was established in March of 2016 and the focus is on Academic, Cultural and Physical Activity Enrichment. The Ignace Youth Center is open year-long, Tuesday and Thursday from 3:00pm-7:00pm, and has a wide array of options for youth to participate in. Youth are encouraged to bring along their academics and can receive assistance with homework, studying, projects, and any additional tools necessary for success.

The space boasts several laptop computers for the youth to utilize, all types of craft and school materials are available, as are fun/educational games such as Apples to Apples, Uno, Scrabble, Yahtzee, etc. Youth are encouraged, but not required to participate in physical activities and fitness games with our Fitness Coordinator, as well as varying Youth Cultural Classes and Cultural Arts rooted in traditional teachings and offered on a rotational basis.

Student Role at Agency:Service learners will assist youth with all academic needs including homework help and general assistance in all subject areas, studying and test/quiz prep/flashcards, organizational skills, computer usage, school projects, etc. Service Learners will also provide youth supervision within the Ignace Youth Center, within youth cultural classes and physical activities/games.
