Dr. Gorman received her B.A. in Latin American Studies from the University of Wisconsin-Madison (1994). She completed her master’s degree at The University of Texas at Austin (1998) in Communication Sciences and Disorders with an additional Multicultural and Bilingual (Spanish/English) Communication Disorders specialty training certificate. She then worked as a bilingual speech-language pathologist for eight years serving diverse caseloads in various settings including her own company which she founded in 2001. She completed her doctorate at The University of Texas at Austin (2006) in Communication Sciences and Disorders with a specialization in language and literacy development of bilingual children. Dr. Gorman joined Marquette University in 2006. She assists in coordinating the Bilingual English/Spanish (BIES) certificate training program and teaches courses in child language, bilingual assessment and intervention, language and literacy intervention in urban preschoolers, and fluency disorders. She directs the Bilingual Language and Literacy Lab and investigates evidence-based language and literacy intervention and cross-language transfer of language and literacy skills in bilingual children. Most recently, she has been the Principal Investigator of the Reading Acquisition for Spanish Speakers program (RASPA) and Co-Director of the Wisconsin Reading Acquisition Program (WRAP) Early Reading First project sponsored by the U.S. Department of Education.
