The Value of a Marquette Education:
The Core of Common Studies is the intellectual heart of a Marquette education, built on our Jesuit tradition and designed for successful life in the 21st century. The core are not the classes you have to take, these are the courses you will want to take -- Courses designed to teach you how to think, to say what you mean and say it well and to act responsibly. The core is designed to challenge your perceptions of the world, to ask questions that do not have easy answers and to engage the student to reflective inquiry in a challenging yet safe environment.
Our graduates gain experience with ethical challenges related to their profession through exposure to corporate culture and values, and a deep understanding of human behavior. The core curriculum allows students the opportunity to study and discuss theoretical complexities of ethics and moral philosophy. With our applied learning experiences, students have the opportunity to put principles of ethics and social responsibility into action.
Marquette outperforms its peer institutions in every category within the National Survey of Student Engagement, which ranks how engaged students are with their coursework, professors and campus community. Marquette students are deeply engaged in the university and our community as a whole. This engagement means that Marquette provides challenging and interesting opportunities for students to develop not only in in the classroom but also in their daily life.
Marquette's downtown location provides students with an abundance of "real world" experience through jobs, internships and clinical placements. Milwaukee is often called a big small town. Vibrant and cosmopolitan yet accessible and friendly, it offers everything to amp up your social life, including cultural activities, great restaurants, sports, music, and performance and visual arts. And, Marquette students have unlimited use of Milwaukee County Transit just by showing your ID. Unlike most urban campuses, more than 94 percent of Marquette students, who come from all states and more than 80 countries, live within a few blocks of campus.
