The Society of Biblical
Literature (SBL) has notified Graduate Student Timothy Henderson that he has
been chosen as one of two recipients of the 2010 SBL Regional Scholar Award.
The selection committee granted this award on the basis of his nomination by
the Upper Midwest Region of SBL for a paper he presented at the 2009 regional
meeting. That paper, entitled "Jesus the Murder Victim: Appropriating Scripture
in the Gospel of Peter's Narrative of Deicide," was a reworked portion of the
dissertation he is currently writing. Award recipients receive a monetary gift
and will be recognized on SBL's website next year and at the 2010 annual
meeting.
In notifying the department, Henderson says that this award
testifies to the strength of Marquette's theology department, which has played a
significant role in preparing him to be an active and contributing member of the
biblical studies guild. He especially acknowledges the feedback he received
from Dr. Hills on this portion of his dissertation, which assisted him in
producing a high-quality work that is worthy of this recognition.
