Professor
Michael
A. Fahey, S.J. , (Dr. theol., University of Tübingen,
1970), [Systematics/Ethics], formerly dean and professor of theology
at St. Michael's College, University of Toronto, is Emmett Doerr
Chair in Catholic Theology, and a specialist in ecclesiology and
ecumenism, especially as regards relations between the churches
of the East and the West. He served as editor of the journal Theological
Studies from 1996 through 2005. He is a former president of
the Catholic Theological Society of America as well as of the
American Theological Society. He majored in classics at Boston
College, studied philosophy at the University of Louvain, Belgium,
and received a licentiate in theology from the Weston Jesuit School
of Theology. He obtained his doctorate in theology at Tübingen.
Besides numerous articles in theological journals, he has published
several books, including Cyprian and the Bible: A Study in
Third-Century Exegesis; Trinitarian Theology East and West;
Catholic Perspectives on Baptism, Eucharist, and Ministry;
“Church” in Systematic Theology: Roman Catholic Perspectives,
ed. F.S. Fiorenza and J. Galvin (Minneapolis: Fortress, 1992);
Ecumenism (1993); and Orthodox and Catholic Sister Churches
(1996). He is currently writing a book on the primacy of
Rome and the churches of the East, as well as a monograph on confirmation
(Liturgical Press). Recently published articles include: “Modelli
Dell'Appartenenza,” Communione: Ecclesiale e Appartenenza
(Rome: Citta Nuova, 2002) pp. 39-57.
