Sarah
Scott Middle School, in collaboration with UW – Madison
Medical School, the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation,
and Sinai Samaritan hospital, offers a unique health
sciences curriculum. Under the leadership of Dr. Robert
Wenner, the program is designed to encourage students
to pursue careers in the health sciences by linking
them with mentors in the field and by exposing them
to a rigorous program in laboratory sciences.
As
a leader in the integration of educational technology,
Sarah Scott Middle School offers a very desirable
environment for MU pre-service field experiences and
student teaching assignments. Further, as a partner
in the PT3 grant, Sarah Scott’s faculty and staff
will be offered professional development opportunities
to further enhance their implementation of technology.
Workshops and seminars will be developed to address
areas of interest. Leigh Van den Kieboom of MU’s School
of Education is on assignment as the liaison to SSMS.
She will provide curricular support for the infusion
of technology in classroom and laboratory settings.
Currently, there are 750 students in the health sciences
specialty program at SSMS.
