WCLL,
serving approximately 760 students, is located on
the far south side of Milwaukee. Under the leadership
of its principal, Sallie Brown, WCLL offers a unique
educational experience. Currently a K4 through Grade
11 program (Grade 12 will be added next year), students
progress through the grades in a “small school” setting.
Faculty and staff working in teams develop close relationships
with students and their families, thus ensuring a
sense of community and support.
WCLL
emphasizes the connections between knowledge, communication,
technology and the world of work. As one of the PT3
Grant’s professional development schools, WCLL provides
placements for MU field experience students and student
teachers. Dr. Ellen Eckman, School of Education, is
the MU liaison to WCLL. In a special effort to encourage
undergraduates to consider teacher certification in
science at the middle and high school levels, Michelle
Korb, Biology Instructor at MU, will oversee the placement
of education students in classes at WCLL. During the
Spring Semester, her students will prepare and teach
lessons to support the science curriculum.
