Jeanette Kraemer, Ph.D.
Foreign Languages & Literature
French

Courses: FOLA 162 - Methods of Teaching a Second Language

Description: In Dr. Kraemer's class, PowerPoint presentations and the Internet play important roles in the learning process. PowerPoint is used not only as a way to enhance her lectures, but as a way to facilitate classroom activities. Steering away from too much text, Dr. Kraemer uses PowerPoint to structure classroom time by emphasizing lesson objectives and main ideas and then expands upon these ideas in her lecture. PowerPoint is further used to introduce examples of concepts.

In addition to her own use of PowerPoint, Dr. Kraemer has also designed student assignments around its use. One particular assignemt requires students to write a Publicité, or advertisement, for a city of their choice, in French. Students use the Internet to gather information about the city and then present their findings in class. PowerPoint is used to enhance the presentation by facilitating the integrating of various forms of media, such as photographs, video, audio and text.
