Technology Integration Support

At other times, technology planning entails making mid to long-range decisions about how existing curriculum may be improved through the integration of educational technology. In this situation, a faculty member and the Learning Technology Consultant can combine their experiences in their respective fields and make decisions about integrating technology in the curriculum in ways that improve teaching and learning. For example, an Education professor who teaches the "Introduction to Schooling" course had used journals as a way of encouraging students to reflect on their impressions of the schools that they visited. In an attempt to enhance the effectiveness of this course requirement, the professor sought a solution that would allow students to share the experiences and reflections recorded in their journals with one another. The Learning Technology Consultant was able to suggest a number of web-based applications, such as e-mail, threaded discussions and discussion boards and explain the pros and cons of each. Given her situation, the professor was then able to determine that the discussion board would work best in supporting this particular educational objective.
